Delta Science Center News and Notes

May 2011

See our new Teacher Education page on this website.
Keep updated on the teacher education opportunities available through the Delta Science Center. Newly added this week is the "Cal Alive" Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Ecology Institute. This event features a five day program that teaches information about California's most important resource.

Thanks for making our Extreme Delta Inland Voyage a big success.

As part of Oakley Science Week, the DSC held an event on May 7 that featured a marine show put on by the Marine Science Institute. MSI brought out a show that featured Leopard Sharks, plus other fish, that the kids just loved. All three shows were booked to the max with kids, plus their parents. It was a beautiful spring day.

Thanks to the Ironhouse Sanitary District for providing a place for us to host the event. ISD also hosted a booth and offered a craft project. Kids got the chance to build a Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) can.

Diablo Water District also came out and helped round out the event with a science experiments showing children what happens when foriegn elements are added to the water they drink.

Thank You Diablo Water District for becoming of sponsor of the Delta Science Center!

The Diablo Water District signed on as a sponsor of the DSC's educational sponsorship fund helping the DSC to offer boat tours on the Delta for local students. Their generous contribution will also help pay for the Education Resource Calendar for 2012, plus more educational resources for students in the 2011-12 school year.
